Safety mirror is commonly used in gyms, wardrobe doors, schools and hospitals where specified or anywhere else there is a concern that standard mirror may pose some safety concern. Safety mirror that complies with NZS 4223 and AS/NZS 2208 will be grade A safety glass and is available in two common forms, vinyl backed and toughened. Vinyl backed will ensure that the shards of glass remain intact in the case of breakage, whilst toughened will break into many tiny cubes (NB: Toughened mirror glass can be subject to distortion in the reflection due to the manufacturing process).

Like other glass mirrored glass can undertake edge work, shaped or have holes drilled into it.
